Rock Churches of the Blue Ridge Parkway - Date: Sat, Apr 3, 2010

Botetourt County Parks, Recreation & Tourism is sponsoring a bus trip to tour the Rock Churches of the Blue Ridge Parkway, built by Rev. Bob Childress, on Saturday, April 3, 2010. This trip is in celebration of the 75th anniversary of the Blue Ridge Parkway during the year 2010. The group will travel to Fancy Gap, VA, for a brief orientation tour at the historical Carroll County Courthouse. They will pick up a step-on guide and begin the tour up the Blue Ridge Parkway. The focus will be on the six historical rock churches built by the Rev. Bob Childress. These churches are oon Buffalo Mountain, Slate Mountain and the counties of Carroll, Patrick and Floyd. In a biography entitled "The Man Who Moved A Mountain," it is told how Rev. Childress braved the wilderness and brought the light of the gospel to wild and brutal areas. The Hillsville Massacre in 1912 helped Bob Childress to realize that the drinking, fighting and killings so much a part of the mountain peoples lives were not normal. Be captivated by Maria as she leaves the convent to become governors to Captain Von Trapp's 7 children. The children come to love her after she introduces them to the joy of music. As Maria and the Captain begin to fall in love, witness the struggle of romance in 1938 Austria, which is quickly disrupted by Nazi Germany's Annexation. Titanic Museum and Dolly Parade  - Fri, May 7, 2010 - Sat. May 8, 2010
 
 The Botetourt County Parks, Recreation and Tourism is sponsoring a bus trip to see the Dolly Parade and the new Titanic Museum in Pigeon Forge, TN, on Friday-Saturday, May 7-8, 2010. DAY 1: The group will visit the new Titanic Museum. This 30,000 square foot museum houses 400 real artifacts. During the 90-minute walk-through experience, you will receive a passenger/crew boarding pass, steer the ship, walk a full scale Grand Staircase and many other things during this interactive experience. During the late afternoon, the group can enjoy the parade from their centrally located hotel along the parade route. Dolly Parton will be the parade marshall. After this, they can take in a show (on their own) as the trolley stops in front of the hotel.  DAY 2: The bus will carry the group to Gatlinburg, TN. The Botetourt County Parks, Recreation and Tourism is sponsoring a bus trip to New York City, Saturday-Monday, May 29-31, 2010, Memorial Day Weekend.
     DAY 1: The group will visit Ground Zero, China Town and South Street Seaport.  DAY 2: The group will see many famous landmarks on their driving tour through New York City. The group will visit Central Park to see Strawberry Fields and the John Lennon Memorial. The group will ride the ferry to either Governor's Island or Staten Island. They will stroll down 5th Avenue or take a horse drawn carriage ride through Central Park. They will enjoy their evening in Times Square.  DAY 3: This morning, the group goes to Rockefeller Plaza. They can visit St. Patrick's Cathedral, see the Radio City Music Hall, visit the NBC Store or view the NBC Today Show Live.
